Pablo Nieto to stay for one more title push in 2004

Pablo Nieto has shelved plans to step up to the 250cc category for 2004, opting instead for another crack at the 125cc World Championship. The 23 year old Spaniard has secured backing from Aprilia for his title push and will contest his sixth consecutive season in the class aboard factory machinery.

"I wanted to make the step up to 250cc last season but only if I could get a factory bike," explained Nieto. "Things didn't go well for me this year and I began to think once again about moving up, but in the end I have decided for one more season in 125cc so that I can try and win the title."

The youngest of the Nieto family is now hoping team matters can be resolved quickly after receiving confirmation from the Italian factory. "I know I will be riding an official Aprilia but I think this week the final details of the team will be sorted out. With this bike, and without the bad luck which followed me this season, I think I will have a good chance. I have been in this category for a few years now and I would like to end the experience as World Champion."
