Locatelli returns to Aprilia with Cecchinello

Roberto Locatelli was back on a 125cc Aprilia today for the first time since winning the World Championship in 2000. The Italian completed a full day of testing with the LCR team run by former racer Lucio Cecchinello, after a nightmare season with KTM. Ironically, Locatelli is now set to take the place vacated in the team by Casey Stoner, his replacement at the Austrian factory.

"I am very, very happy with this move – to go from being unemployed to signing for the team which won the last 250 and 125cc races of the season is fantastic news for me," said Locatelli. "It is also great to be back at Aprilia where I have had so much success in the past. My chief mechanic will be the same as in 2000 so everything is set up perfectly for me. During the negotiations with Lucio it was the first time I had spoken to him as a team manager and not as a rival, but he was very professional and is a very nice guy. Hopefully we can turn our good relationship into results on the track."
