Fonsi Nieto took his first victory of the 2003 season in the 250cc race at Donington Park last year after a close dice with Manuel Poggiali, taking the spoils by a mere two tenths of a second.

The Spaniard made his charge for the line after seeing rivals Toni Elias and Randy de Puniet both make mistakes that ruled them out the battle for victory. Elias dropped back from the lead pair thanks to an error while making a move for top spot, whilst De Puniet also ventured off the track after experiencing front brake problems.

Elias lapped alone in third for numerous laps until the hard-charging Ant West, who made his way up from a first lap position of 11th, gatecrashed the podium with two laps to go. Roberto Rolfo then came close to sinking Elias back to fifth but lost out by an incredible one thousandth of a second.

Sebastian Porto claimed eighth as Franco Battaini, Naoki Matsudo and Alex Debon filled out the top ten, whilst home rider Chaz Davies almost made his goal of a top 12 finish but was beaten on the line by Hector Faubel.
