The Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland is set to provide a glorious day of racing and sunshine to the crowd who flocked to the Sachsenring for the last round of the MotoGP World Championship before the month-long summer break.

Movistar Honda's Marco Melandri has set the fastest time in Sunday morning's warm-up on the German track, lapping in 1'23.867. Ducati's Carlos Checa was second ahead of Loris Capirossi, Alex Barros and Sete Gibernau.

Valentino Rossi, who will start from the second row of the grid, was sixth fastest ahead of poleman Nicky Hayden, who suffered an off-track excursion during the session. Kawasaki riders Shinya Nakano and Alex Hofmann took eighth and ninth respectively, while Troy Bayliss completed the top 10.

Dani Pedrosa was the quickest in the quarter litre class, beating factory colleague Jorge Lorenzo and pole-setter Alex de Angelis. Frenchman Randy de Puniet was fourth fastest ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama, Andrea Dovizioso and Sebastian Porto.

In the 125 class, Red Bull KTM riders Gabor Talmacsi and Julian Simon were the fastest, as the Hungarian lapped in 1'28.884, just a thousandth of a second fastest than his Spanish team-mate. Tom Lüthi was third fastest on his Honda, ahead of Sergio Gadea, Alvaro Bautista and Fabrizio Lai. Poleman Mika Kallio was eighth fastest behind Japanese rookie Tomoyoshi Koyama.
