This weekend's Grand Prix is only the second race of the 2006 season, but there are already a number of riders on the sidelines suffering from injuries in Qatar.

In a couple of cases, like those of Thomas Luthi and Michele Pirro, the riders are still nursing their wounds from preseason testing. Luthi's fractured collarbone suffered in the Official Test in Catalunya continues to trouble the reigning World Champion, whilst Pirro's ankle injury from the Jerez Test prevented him from debuting at the Andalusian track.

The Malaguti Ajo Corse team are the worst affected by the trend, whose rider Alex Masbou fractured his leg and couldn't run in Jerez. Their second rider, Tomoyoshi Koyama, is also on crutches, having fractured his ankle in the first Grand Prix where he earned four points.

The following video contains footage of the injured riders in the boxes and around the paddock at the Losail Circuit.
