Lorenzo takes Brno win

Jorge Lorenzo, dominant all weekend at Brno, took victory from pole at today's 250cc Gauloises Grand Prix Ceske republiky to extend his lead at the top of the classification. The Fortuna Aprilia rider, fresh from renewing his contract for 2007, escaped from his pursuing race and title challengers Andrea Dovizioso and Hiroshi Aoyama in the final stages of the race to win the race which proved elusive for the Spaniard last season.

Behind Lorenzo, Dovizioso and Aoyama engaged in an exciting duel which drew to a breathtaking conclusion. Dovizioso eventually made his move on the last corner, with Aoyama later admitting to have been "sleeping" with the Italian behind him. 17 thousandths of a second was all that separated the two, some distance ahead of fourth placed rider Roberto Locatelli.

Hector Barbera and Shuhei Aoyama rounded off the top six, with the Japanese rider finishing ahead of his team-mate Martin Cardenas and a large cluster of Aprilia riders. Sylvain Guintoli, Marco Simoncelli and Jakub Smrz completed the top ten, the latter racing in front of his home crowd.

Alex de Angelis, who had been looking to make up some ground on Aoyama in the standings, crashed on lap five having started well and led the race.
