Moto2 prototypes continue to impress in Spanish championship

Espargaró and Rolfo place in top ten in Sunday race at Valencia track.

Third after the CEV Buckler race at Albacete and second in Jerez, Carmelo Morales took his first win in the Extreme/Moto2 class in Valencia. However, the big talking point was the continued impressive performance of the new prototype machines in the Spanish championship.

Versions of the 600cc bikes that will make up the World Championship intermediate class from 2010 were ridden by four riders this past weekend, with the highest placing being Aleix Espargaró in fifth. Roberto Rolfo made his debut in the CEV Buckler with a Laglisse YM2 kit Moto2 bike, and was satisfied with a seventh place finish.

“The most important thing is that myself and the bike have got better as the weekend went on. I was able to go faster in the race than in practice and, although seventh is a good result, I hope to do better next time in Albacete,” said the Italian after the race.

Fellow Moto2 entrants Dani Rivas and Dani Arcas had dificulties in the Sunday run, the former retiring with a mechanical problema and the latter Orly able to place thirteenth. The top four on the grid: Morales, Del Amor, Martínez and De Gea, proved to be a step ahead of the rest and took off in a lead group. Morales emerged victorious.
