Level up: every rider breaks 2 minute Sepang barrier

The Sepang Test saw all the full-time riders dip into the 1:59s and beyond as 2020 shapes up to be a barnstormer

At the 2020 MotoGP™ Sepang Test, every full-time premier class rider managed to set a lap time under the 2:00 bracket. That’s everyone from fastest man Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) to Red Bull KTM Tech 3 rookie Iker Lecuona in P23, with just 1.549 seconds separating the entire field.

That is, quite simply, super impressive. Just three years ago at the Sepang Test, only the top 10 fastest men were able to set a lap time below the 2:00 barrier. And now, with every rider – including all the rookies and Yamaha test rider Jorge Lorenzo – dropping below the magic number, it goes to show the competition levels in MotoGP™ are reaching incredible heights.

In addition, at the end of the three days, just 0.345 split all six factories. P1-P9, Quartararo to Aleix Espargaro. And, just to add a bit more meat to the bone, the top 18 were covered by a mere eight tenths, and P18 was Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) who seemingly didn’t push for a really fast time.

Pencil in every factory for a podium challenge under the Losail International Circuit floodlights because if the Sepang Test is anything to go by, we’re in for a mouth-watering 2020 campaign.
