Tyre Pressure Monitoring System: what's the latest?

Tests on the new Tyre Pressure Monitoring System are ongoing as we land in Jerez for Round 4

In May 2022, it was announced that a new live tyre pressure monitoring protocol was being evaluated by MotoGP™ to further ensure that all machines were compliant with the pressures established by MotoGP™ Official Tyre Supplier, Michelin. Tyre pressure is a very sensitive value as readings fluctuate significantly during the race, and even at different points of the circuit, so the system needs to be controlled in real time and remotely.

During 2022, all premier class manufacturers agreed to freely share complete tyre data after each event in order to develop this new, unified system.

As agreed with the MSMA - the manufacturers association - the unified system was not to be introduced before Jerez 2023 and required validating to ensure a reliable system for scrutineering. Testing started during pre-season and remains ongoing in preparation for its full introduction and enforcement.

More analysis will now take place at the Spanish and French GPs, as well as the one-day Jerez Test the day after the Spanish GP has concluded. Check back for more updates when we have them!
