An action-packed Friday at the iconic Mugello circuit sets the stage perfectly for a potential history-making weekend at the Italian Grand Prix. Not only will Saturday at Mugello see the first-ever Tissot Sprint at the historic venue, but history could also be made in Qualifying.
For the past five Grand Prix held at the Mugello circuitthere has been a different rider starting from pole position over the past six Grand Prix held at Mugello, meaning Saturday could be the day we see the sixth consecutive polesitter at the Italian Grand Prix.
The run of different polesitters began in 2017 when Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) took pole position for Yamaha, with the latest rider to take pole being Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) in 2022. Between 2017 and 2022 Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™), and Valentino Rossi have all picked up pole positions at the Italian GP.
