The Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland was a sensational event at the Sachsenring with a last-lap showdown between Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) and Francesco Bagnaia (Lenovo Ducati Team) in the race. Martin claimed a double in Germany to take a maximum 37 points heading into next week’s Motul TT Assen as he closed the gap on Bagnaia in the standings. After Round 7 concluded, how is the Championship chase looking in MotoGP™?
Bagnaia’s two second-place finishes means he remains in charge of the Championship standings, but he finds the chasing pack even closer. He held a 21-point lead over Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) after the Italian Grand Prix, but it’s Martin who now sits in second following his magnificent double in Germany. The gap is just 14 points between Bagnaia and Martin with the Spaniard now on an incredible run of form: he has taken 96 points out of a possible 111 in the last three Grands Prix events.
Bezzecchi remains in the top three heading into the Netherlands after he took seventh in the Tissot Sprint and fourth in the Grand Prix, but he’s dropped to 34 points behind the reigning World Champion. One rider who lost a lot of ground was Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) after the South African rider crashed from the podium places, falling behind Johann Zarco (Prima Pramac Racing) in the standings and falling 64 points behind Bagnaia after collecting only four points.
