After a lengthy career in other motorcycling series, Bernat Martínez joined the World Championship for the start of the 2010 season as he lined up for the Maquinza SAG Team in the inaugural Moto2 campaign.

The Spaniard, from Valencia, arrived in Moto2 having finished runner-up in the Extreme category of the 2009 CEV Buckler (Spanish National Championship), and had participated for several years in the Catalan Extreme Championship, which he won in 2007.

Shortly before the start of the Moto2 World Championship in 2010 the Stop and Go team confirmed that Martínez would ride for them in the new category, and he used his experience of 4-stroke machinery in the final Official Test before the start of the season to become accustomed to his new Bimota chassis.

Martínez will be one of only two riders using the Italian frame in the first season of the category –Ratthapark Wilairot on the other side of the SAG garage being the other.
