Concessions: will Honda change rank on Sunday?

HRC can move up a rank ahead of 2026 if one of their riders finishes in the top seven in Valencia's season finale

After Joan Mir - who has a Long Lap Penalty for the Grand Prix - and Honda HRC Castrol teammate Luca Marini crashed together in the Tissot Sprint, in addition to Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR), Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda LCR), and wildcard Aleix Espargaro (Honda HRC Test Team) failing to score points, just nine points lie between Honda changing concession rank on Sunday. Currently in Rank D, they’ll move up to Rank C if the top rider is P7 or higher - but what will that change?

Let's have a look. Moving into Rank C will see them lose certain concessions, such as the ability to test on any circuit; instead, they’ll only have three designated test tracks. In addition, they’ll also have fewer tyres available, moving to 220 instead of 260. Furthermore, those tests will only be for their official Test Riders too, and not their full-time MotoGP riders.

Their wildcard opportunities will also be halved from six to three, and their engine allocation will be reduced from 10 to eight. There’ll also be an engine-spec freeze instead of their free rein to develop as they wish to, whilst aero updates will also be limited to just one instead of the two permitted while in Rank D.

Keep a close eye on the progress of the Honda riders in Sunday’s 2025 curtain closer at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo to see if the Japanese manufacturer move up a concession rank ahead of the 2026 campaign.
