Repsol Honda Pilot Marc Márquez hat sich am Freitag die Bestzeit der MotoGP™-Klasse zum Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya gesichert. Der Spanier fuhr in 1:44,295 Minuten die unangefochtene Tagesbestzeit. Er landete vor Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team), der auf den Weltmeister 0,405 Sekunden einbüßte.
Trainingsrang drei ging am Freitag an Jonas Folger. Der Deutsche Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Pilot kam bis auf 0,544 Sekunden an die Bestzeit heran und hielt die beiden Ducati-Piloten und Podestfahrer von Mugello - Andrea Dovizioso und Danilo Petrucci – auf den Rängen vier und fünf hinter sich.
Der Aufwärtstrend von Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Pilot Tito Rabat hält an. Der Honda-Satelliten-Pilot wurde Sechster und kam bis auf 0,627 Sekunden an die Bestzeit heran. Hinter ihm landete Folgers Teamkollege Johann Zarco vor Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team), Alvaro Bautista (Pull&Bear Aspar Team) und Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP).
WM-Leader Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) kam über den 16. Trainingsrang nicht hinaus und hatte am Ende 1,515 Sekunden Rückstand. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) wurde nur 19.
Nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) completed the top ten on Day 1 at the venue on which he won last season – almost his most recent victory – as teammate and Championship leader Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) ended Friday in sixteenth. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) was another high profile name further down the timesheets, taking P19 after a crash in FP2.
FP3 decides the top ten initial graduates to Q2 on Saturday morning, before qualifying gets underway with Q1 from 14:10 (GMT +2) on Day 2.
