Last year’s Czech GP podium finisher was present in Salzburg for a fitness assessment, five weeks before the first Official Test of 2021 in Qatar. Zarco was testing his fitness levels and to see if it was necessary to adapt his training in any way, as is explained by his trainer Romain Guillot, who accompanied Zarco in Austria.

“Initially, the goal was to take stock of Johann's physical level, to then adapt our work at home,” he says on the sidelines of an interview with Claude Michy, promoter of the Grand Prix de France.

“More concretely, they all have a bunch of machines to gauge the physical, physiological and biomechanical aspects. Then we talk to the professionals on-site, whether they are doctors, physiotherapists or physical trainers. We explain to them what we usually do, they tell me what works and the exercises that should instead be readjusted.”

The feedback from Zarco’s various sessions was very positive, according to the number 5 himself: “The fact that Red Bull have a lot of athletes also allows us to see where we are at. We suspected that there were still some things to work on, but they said we were already well prepared!”

Zarco, previously seen on testing alongside WorldSBK in Jerez, also plans to ride four more days in February, two in Almeria and two in Jerez, to further sharpen his skills and fitness ahead of the Qatar Test at the start of March.
