A crucial two-day Misano Test awaits

2023 parts and the return of Marc Marquez; it’s set to be an intriguing couple of days at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli

On Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th of September, a crucial two-day Official MotoGP™ Test takes places at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli as factories roll out 2023 parts to test ahead of the Valencia Test, while we also welcome back a certain Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team).

The eight-time World Champion’s return was the big breaking news on Friday at the San Marino GP, as Repsol Honda confirmed that after a couple of track days on a Honda CBR600RR at MotorLand Aragon, all was well with his right arm. This was confirmed further when Marquez passed a medical check on Saturday in Misano, signalling the perfect news for both the number 93 and HRC.

This test is vital for the Japanese giants in terms of 2023. 2022 has been a tough season as all their focus now turns to making a competitive, race-winning RC213V for the upcoming campaign. The Misano Test will give Marquez a chance to offer some critical feedback on the new parts being tested, but arguably more importantly, it will also act as a huge indicator as to when he’s able to make a racing return.

Elsewhere, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) admitted in Thursday’s pre-event Press Conference that Yamaha are bringing a 2023 prototype to Misano, so it’s going to be compelling to see what the reigning World Champion has to say about the new engine. Title rival Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) hinted that he won’t have too many things to try, but we can certainly expect Ducati to be very busy – as they always are.

In addition, Aprilia and KTM will be lapping with 2023 firmly at the forefront of their minds, but Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) did express his desire to try and find some performance under braking, to try and bring him closer to the Ducatis and Quartararo. As we know, Espargaro is well in the title frame alongside Quartararo and Pecco heading into the final six races of the season.

These two days in Misano – for all the riders – act as the perfect gateway to try things that the Test Riders have been testing ahead of the end of season test at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Factories will be wanting to arrive in Valencia with a much clearer plan, which the Misano Test helps them to do.

Suzuki, as they get set to say goodbye to MotoGP™ at the end of the season, will be focusing on finding ways to finish the 2022 campaign as strong as possible. Unfortunately, Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) remains sidelined after picking up an ankle injury in his Turn 1 Austrian GP crash.

Live Timing will be available on both days so you can keep up with the action, whilst highlights, interviews and an in-depth report will be posted on motogp.com at the end of each day. In addition, we will be going live from Misano on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch with motogp.com Pitlane Reporter Simon Crafar to get updates at 13:00 local time (GMT+2) on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
