Enel X Way ensures a full power 2022 MotoE™ season

The recent season finale underlines four years of progress, innovation and stunning competition in the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup

The recent season finale for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup at Misano staged two more incredible races, crowning the 2022 Cup winner and seeing four riders take to the podium as MotoE™ once again showcased some of the closest competition in the world. Thanks to partner Enel X Way, the Enel group company operating in the electric mobility sector, MotoE™ has gone from strength to strength since inception in 2019 thanks to world-leading innovation and reliability.

Enel X Way is the Smart Charging partner of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup and a driving force behind some of the incredible innovation we’ve seen over the last four seasons. MotoE™ is the perfect testing ground to develop and advance new technologies in the sector before they reach the consumer on the street, and Enel X Way is a vital partner committed to showcasing the full potential of the competition and technology within.

From one race on most weekends in its first season, 2022 saw six double-header events take place for a calendar of 12 races, proving an impressive rate of growth. The JuiceRoll Race Edition, specifically developed for MotoE™, has also been a game changer since its introduction in 2021. The highly innovative racing charger has internal storage and two interconnectable units: a Semi-Mobile Unit (SMU) and a Mobile Unit (MU), with the internal storage capability of more than than 1,1 MWh - ensuring the Cup is able to run on green electricity at each venue.

The MU enables a seven-minute final charge on the starting grid, allowing the bikes to cover a greater distance than in previous seasons. The majority of races have therefore seen a lap added to their race length since the introduction of the JuiceRoll Race Edition, another key step forward for both the competition and the innovation born from MotoE™.

Enel is also driving innovation in MotoGP™ as Sustainable Power partner and is imperative to the paddock’s mission to increase efficiency and sustainability. As part of this role, Enel, with its Global Business Line Enel X Global Retail, a leader in the development of innovative solutions to support the energy transition, is also supporting Dorna in the measurement and reporting of the Carbon Footprint of the 2022 MotoGP™ season, and following the definition of a decarbonisation roadmap, aiming to find new solution to reduce environmental impact and to play a leading role in creating a more sustainable future for our planet.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports: "We’re proud of our collaboration with Enel X Way and of the journey MotoE has taken since inception. From an idea to a reality, the work of our partners has ensured the Cup has only gone from strength to strength. The consistent innovation and development we have seen from Enel X Way has enabled the Cup to add more races and take on new challenges, and we have seen impressive increases in the agility and efficiency in charging. The MotoGP paddock is a racing laboratory and we’re proud to work with a partner like Enel X Way to maximise MotoE’s potential as a parallel path of competition and development."

Herve Poncharal, President of IRTA: "These four years of MotoE have been impressive to watch. I think the Cup has shown that it truly is some of the best racing in the world, and you can make a proper competition with electric motorcycles. Starting a new chapter is always a huge challenge in life but with partners like Enel X Way, MotoE has been able to prove its viability and enjoy success from the very start. The innovation in the Cup is vital, and we are already seeing the progress made by Enel X Way showing how valuable the sport is to the sector. We are excited to see what the future brings as we move into a new era for the Cup alongside Enel X Way, and I know we have even more progress and innovation to look forward to."

Matteo Ferrari, 2019 FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup winner: "It has been an honour to be part of this competition from the start and as a rider, it is exciting to see the progress in the charging and how quickly the bikes are ready to go. As a rider, it’s also always fun to be able to do another lap! I was proud to be the first ever FIM Enel MotoE World Cup winner in 2019 and now, looking back at the 2022 season, it’s incredible to see MotoE become established as really great racing, and see the steps forward the Cup has made."
