"I made the best start of my Moto2 career!"

After good pace in practice, 2014 Moto3™ World Champion Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) had a difficult qualifying session at the Malaysian GP - finding himself way back on the grid along with fellow frequent frontrunners Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) and Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) after a tough session under the unpredictable skies of Sepang. On race day, Marquez had an incredible launch off the line and made it up to fight for the top five despite the torrential conditions, eventually crossing the line to bring it home in P7 as the track began to dry - having pushed his tyres on the fight through the field.

Next up is a track with good memories for the Spaniard, with the paddock back on European soil at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo for the season finale in Valencia - where Marquez sealed the Moto3™ World Championship in 2014.

AM73: “I am happy because I made a really good race from so far back on the grid, I took a lot of risks on lap one after I made the best start of my Moto2 career.  I got to fifth place but with the drying track and having pushed my tyres I was seventh at the end. It is a good result considering the problems in qualifying and I’m back riding at my best. Now we have a short break before the final race in Valencia, I’m motivated for a strong finish to the season.”
