60 laps complete and P4 on the timesheets with a 1:59.562 signals a successful Day 2 for Mission Winnow Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso at the Sepang Test.
One of the main talking points to Day 2 was Ducati’s teamwork, with both Dovi and teammate Danilo Petrucci heading out together to complete a race simulation.
“Yes I’m happy about today,” said Dovizioso. “We worked in the right way for a test because it’s the first test after the break and it’s important to get into the rhythm to work in some details, like the race. With Danilo, we did a good simulation, we did 10 laps then 10 laps with the same tyres. We tried to simulate the race condition and I think this is the best way to test, this is really good.
“Every time we do this test, the feedback is clearer and it’s more important that when you’re doing a lot of exits with four or five laps. So it was good, the speed was really good but I think the condition was better than in the race (last year). But we are working for the season in the small details. Our base is good, we didn’t have something big to compare about the new bike so we are working in some details to be a bit better.”
The GP19 is, so far, looking in good shape ahead of the first race of the season in Qatar. But there are always areas where you can improve, as Dovizioso explains when asked if he thinks Ducati have room for improvement:
“There is always a lot of things that you’re able to improve. Still, I’m not 100% happy, we are working in the right way, in a good way, the feeling is good, but you know the competitors are really strong so it’s never enough.”
