Lucas Oliver is no stranger to the world of motorcycles. His grandfather, Don Francisco Bultó founded the famous Bultaco brand, whilst his cousin is none other than SuzukiÂs Spanish star Sete Gibernau. He began riding in 1991 and won his first title within a year  the 125cc Spanish Championship. He left his racing career for five years whilst he studied for a degree in engineering, returning as an amateur in 1997 and competing in enduro and Superbike events. In 1998 he moved into the Spanish 250 Championship and finished the season in 7th. The following season he took the step up to the World Championships, having been offered a position alongside Japanese rider Manako in the Kurtz team on a Yamaha TZM. His debut season was marred by bad luck and he was unable to compete consistently throughout the season. In 2000 the D´AntÃn team offered him a Yamaha 250, which he accepted, and he will continue with the Spanish outfit in 2001.
