Masia means business in Friday morning P1

The Spaniard is looking to reignite his title hopes as he got the perfect start to his Catalan Grand Prix

Jaume Masia (Leopard Racing) stamped his authority on Friday morning's P1 at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya with a stunning 1:48.300. The Spaniard's time put him an incredible 0.656s clear of the field despite carving through traffic and putting in a Rossi-esque last corner overtake at the sight of the chequered flag. It was Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) who got closest to the Honda rider in P2, with an impressive showing from Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team) securing him a spot in the top three.

It was a good start for the Leopard squad as Tatsuki Suzuki joined his teammate inside the top five to take P4. Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) topped the session towards the end but was then bumped down to P5. The Dutch rookie is looking keen to carry his podium potential from Austria into this weekend as he searches for his first Grand Prix podium. Riccardo Rossi (SIC58 Squadra Corse) rounded out the top six with the Championship leader Daniel Holgago (Red Bull KTM Tech3) starting his Catalan GP in P10 one second off the pace.

Practice 2 for Moto3™ begins at 13:15 local time (GMT +2), so make sure to tune in and keep up to date with all the action on motogp.com.
