Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Maverick Viñales topped FP1 in Austria at the new Red Bull Ring, and the Spaniard remained a frontrunner on the combined timesheets – beaten only by Ducati Team pairing Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone. With tyres for the race weekend different to those used for the test however, the former Moto3™ world champion is concentrating his efforts on tyres and race preparation.
Maverick Viñales: “After summer I feel really strong, but we have a lot of work to do because we don’t know yet which tyre we’re going to use in the race. I don’t know if the soft one will make it to the end, and the hard one we still have more to do. Today I worked with both tyres and I was quite happy with the performance of the hard one, so tomorrow we’re going to check that better. The tyres we had in the test were super soft but the laptimes on the harder tyres are not so far away from them, so I’m surprised.”
