Rancho Canudas is set to stage the third round of competition in 2016, with a double and innovative date on the calendar: on Saturday the 10th the racing will take place on a quarter-mile replica of Daytona, with the Sunday then set for the first national race.
Authentic American flat track arrives in Catalonia, with the second double-bill of the RFME Copa de España season getting in gear on the 10th and 11th of September at the Rancho Canudas in Casseres (Barcelona). The riders face a double-challenge with a quarter-mile replica oval of Daytona in AMA Pro Flat Track on Saturday night, with a more traditional layout the challenge for Sunday - with a jump included.
Nico Terol gets to the Catalan date on the calendar as leader of the Flattrack Pro category. The former 125 world champion and current WorldSSP rider dominated the oval in Madrid to beat Ferran Cardus (Suzuki Grau) and Franc Serra (Alonso Racing Team). Despite that result, Brad Baker (Kawasaki Noyes Camp) is still second in the standings thanks to his double in Valencia - but Cardus and Serra now trail the American by only four and 14 points respectively. With the 50 points up for grabs on Catalan soil, both could leapfrog the American this weekend - or even take over at the top from Terol.
Oliver Brindley (Kawasaki Noyes Camp) won't be traveling to the Canudas Ranch to defend his fifth position in the general classification. The Brit injured himself in the final in Madrid and will come back to competition in the final date of the British dirt track championship (DTRA), which is also set to see lights out this weekend. Gerard Bailo (Suzuki Catala), Adrian Garin (Alonso Racing Team), Guillermo Cano (ESR Bikes), Jordi Casas (Racing 19) and Josep Piedra (Berga Offroad) are the men behind him in the standings as they stand, completing the top ten.
Rookies: 3 out of 3 for Sastre
The youngest competitors will be trying to overcome the three consecutive victories of Ferran Sastre (Kawasaki Noyes Camp). The rider from the Noyes cantera has proved the cream of the crop so far and will be looking to increase his lead over Jaume Gaya (Maquina Motors) and Genis Gelada (Coward/Supermotard Kit). Marc Capdevila (KTM Parcerisas) and Josep Gelada (Coward/Supermotard Kit) will be looking ahead to this race with extra motivation, having got on the podium in San Martin de la Vega.
Master: Cano leads as Massana and Navarro look to fight back
Vicent Navarro 'Barranqui' (Suzuki Grau) won for the first time in Madrid and in doing so put himself in the running for the title in the Master category. He is now third, one point behind Luis Massana (KTM Parcerisas), but the man to beat has been Guillermo Cano - who hasn't yet been off the podium and has a 13 point cushion in the lead. Victor Lozano (Armi Energy Drink), Jaume Gaya (Maquina Motors) and Ferran Mas (Kawasaki Noyes Camp) complete the line up of the most experienced riders in the paddock.
