Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) has had a tough time getting temperature into the Michelin front wet tyre – and a rainy day at Phillip Island saw the ‘Spartan’ unable to make much progress as the rain got heavier and it became increasingly difficult to find a good reference. Lorenzo, who finished the day in 19th position ahead of penalised teammate Valentino Rossi after only nine laps, timed some track activity wrong in the changing amounts of water on track, and will be back out in FP3 to try and ensure his qualification straight through to Q2 – with a new timetable seeing Moto3™ head out to lead proceedings at 9:00 local time (GMT +11).
Jorge Lorenzo (P19): “I exited the pit lane quite late this morning and I didn‘t make so many laps on the first run. I was progressing little by little, but I stopped too early and when I tried the second bike there was already more water on the track, so I did just one more lap. It was difficult to find a good reference to understand on which bike we were better in these conditions.”
Today we couldn't complete the free practices due to heavy rain! Tomorrow will be a hard working day! #AustralianGP pic.twitter.com/2MITvXfj2U
