World media reacts to #8ball

After being crowned Champion of the world for an eighth time following the scintillating PTT Thailand Grand Prix, Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Marquez certainly got the world talking once more. Check out a selection of the stories and reactions from across the globe below:

United Kingdom:

In the UK, where MotoGP™ is a niche sport compared to countries such as Spain and Italy, BBC Sport covered Marquez’ #8ball World Championship victory, with mainstream news outlets The Guardian and The Independent also covering the 93’s win.

USA:

CNN hailed Marquez as “the undoubted genius” while beIN Sports took an in-depth look at the Spaniard’s career.

Australia:

Fox Sports run with Marquez’ comments about 2019 being his best-ever season in MotoGP™, while taking a look at some of the statistics and records Marquez has notched up this season. News.com.Au also hail the “Honda superstar”.

Spain:

As you’d expect, Spain’s very own superstar made all the headlines in the aftermath of his eighth title. Marca, as.com and Mundo Deportivo had Marquez as their main front-page story.

Italy:

He may have reeled in Italy’s Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) but the news was still huge in a country where MotoGP™ remains an immensely popular sport. La Repubblica, La Gazzetta, TuttoSport.com, and Rai News24 were just a few of the Italian media outlets that reported Marquez’ triumph.

France:

In France, home to second-place finisher in Thailand and rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT), the news was understandably a hot topic as the 20-year-old shapes up for a title challenge next season. However, this year was all about Marquez as L’Équipe.fr, Sport24 - Le Figaro, Ouest-France and RMC Sport – BFMTV features the #8ball news.

Germany:

Germany is home to one of Marquez’ fortress’ – the Sachsenring. The number 93 is unbeaten around the German layout and Spiegel Online, one of the most widely read German-language news websites, celebrated the Spaniard’s 2019 dominance.

Netherlands:

De Telegraaf, the largest Dutch daily morning newspaper, produced a feature about Marquez' title win. 

Thailand:

India:

In India, the country Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) paid a visit to on his way to the Thai GP, four of their main news outlets featured stories about Marquez’ eighth title win: India Today, The Times of India, The Indian Express and the Hindustan Times.
