It was a thrilling FIM Enel MotoE™ World Championship Race 2, that saw Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar Team) storm to victory in front of his home crowd after a masterclass at Mugello. Zannoni held on to victory after a stunning duel for victory which was settled on the final lap. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) finished second best at the chequered flag and is now six points behind Zannoni in the Championship standings. Meanwhile, behind and not by much in third was LCR E-Team’s Eric Granado who battled hard for the final position on the podium after a drag race to the line.

Judging by the exploded airbag, he enjoyed that one 😅#ItalianGP 🇮🇹 pic.twitter.com/Dtm6FeXGJ4
However, once the lights went out to start MotoE™ Race 2 at the Gran Premio d’Italia Brembo it was Alessandro Zaccone (Tech3 E-Racing) who got the holeshot off the line before Zannoni quickly stole the race lead from polesitter on the entry to turn one. Zannoni put down the hammer instantly, charging hard throughout the first lap in an attempt to try and stretch out a packed MotoE™ field.
The fastest lap changed hands multiple times throughout with Mattia Casadei taking the lead on lap three on the entry of San Donato in a brave move. Once the #40 was in the lead a front group began to be created with Zannoni and Nicholas Spinelli (Tech3 E-Racing) matching the pace of the race leader before Spinelli lost time after a magical save – dropping down to fifth.

It soon became a battle of slipstream at the front as Zannoni and Casadei began their spectacular duel for the lead. The front two were locked together at every sector and were comfortably ahead of Granado who had a challenge on his hands as he led a huge group of riders, who all had their eyes on the final spot on the podium with positions changing at every opportunity.
It all went down to the final lap with Casadei taking the race lead before running wide and handing Zannoni the lead once again. Zannoni would put together a perfect last lap and with a perfect drive out of the final corner, Zannoni crossed the line to win by 0.219s. Meanwhile, the battle for P3 was not over yet with Granado holding off Massimo Roccoli (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse) at the line – the two riders separated by 0.011s.

Roccoli will be left wondering what could have been after crossing the line in fourth position after narrowly missing out on a podium. Behind Roccoli was Andrea Mantovani (KLINT Forward Factory Team), who charged from 10th on the grid to an astonishing fifth place at the line. The #9 was ahead of polesitter Zaccone, who will be aiming for redemption with one more race remaining at Mugello. Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE™) finished in seventh ahead of Hector Garzo (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE™), who took eighth. Ninth place went the way of Spinelli who dropped further down the order after his huge save, finishing ahead of Oscar Gutierrez (Axxis-MSI), who took the final spot inside the top 10.
MotoE™ action is not over at Mugello with one more race still to come at 18:40 local time (UTC +2), so make sure you tune in on motogp.com!
