Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) underwent successful surgery on Sunday and has shared results from a positive follow up medical check on Tuesday. A crash at the Dutch GP left him with a fractured left hand after the #73 was involved in a racing incident with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

After an initial check at the circuit’s medical center, where Marquez emerged with his hand heavily bandaged, the injury was confirmed as both needing surgery and rendering him 'unfit' - which means he'll need to pass an official medical check to get back on track.

Since, BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP have confirmed that the planned surgery, performed in Madrid, was successful. The team shared the update on social media:

“The surgical procedure for the subcapital fracture of the second metacarpal of the left hand was successfully completed. Further updates on @alexmarquez73 recovery will follow in the next days.”

Currently sitting second in the MotoGP standings, Marquez shared on Tuesday that he's had that first positive check up too:

“Great news from my first post-surgery check-up! Recovery begins."

Will he be back out for the German GP? That's as yet unconfirmed, but with updates so far shared quickly from both Gresini and Alex himself, fans can expect to find out soon.
