Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) has undergone successful surgery following a crash at the Motul Grand Prix of the Netherlands that left him with a fractured left hand. The #73 rider was involved in a racing incident with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), which resulted in a subcapital fracture of the second metacarpal.

After an initial check at the circuit’s medical center, where Marquez emerged with his hand heavily bandaged, the injury was confirmed and classified as a racing incident by the FIM MotoGP Stewards. He has since been declared unfit, with his participation in upcoming GPs now in doubt. 

BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP confirmed that the surgical procedure, performed in Madrid, was successful. The team shared the update on social media, stating:

“The surgical procedure for the subcapital fracture of the second metacarpal of the left hand was successfully completed. Further updates on @alexmarquez73 recovery will follow in the next days.”

Currently sitting second in the MotoGP standings, Marquez will now begin his recovery, with more details expected soon regarding his return to action.
