Talking Points: “It’s part of the game”

After another trip to the Sachsenring, sink your teeth into the biggest talking points from an unforgettable German GP

Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) completed his 200th MotoGP start in style, securing his ninth Sachsenring win in the premier class and surpassing MotoGP Legend Giacomo Agostini on the overall win list. The #93 clinched victory ahead of brother and Championship rival Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP), who started his 100th MotoGP race on Sunday. It was a fairytale for the Marquez family, while Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) claimed a solid third across the line. Now, as the dust settles from an attritional Grand Prix, take a deep dive into the hottest headlines below!

"Marked on the calendar to attack"

Marc Marquez had another incredible weekend, adding another Sachsenring win to his tally and maintaining his 'SachsenKing' status. The #93 took a convincing victory, crossing the line with a magical 6.380s advantage over the rest of the field to secure his ninth MotoGP Sachsenring win. Marc Marquez also earned his 69th career win, explaining his strategy for the weekend.

Marc Marquez: "This was one of the tracks that I marked on the calendar to attack. The other tracks were to defend, like the last two rounds, but this track, it’s true that this is a special racetrack for me. We had a perfect weekend. Super concentrated. Especially yesterday was the most important day of the weekend due to the wet conditions. Today in the dry, I knew that my rhythm was a bit faster than the others."

"You need to take care"

Alex Marquez completed a heroic ride on Sunday, battling through the pain barrier following his Assen crash. The #73 started his 100th MotoGP race, fighting through the pack after starting from the second row of the grid. Alex Marquez gave his immediate thoughts after Sunday’s German GP and spoke about the challenging 30 laps on his charge to P2.

Alex Marquez: "After what happened in Assen, to be here in second is something that gives me a lot of confidence and a boost. We will see how I can recover and how much I can improve in Brno. But this podium feels amazing. Before coming to the Sachsenring, you don't know if you are fit or not, and you are thinking of making second or more, because Marc, we knew, would be super difficult to beat, so to be second is something super amazing. I will try to recover a little bit in these three days and arrive at Brno a little bit better.

"The first corner was difficult today; it was tricky. There was a tailwind; I already saw it on the grid. I saw the flags that the wind was a little bit strong at that point with the tailwind. I said, You need to take care there."

"It’s part of the game"

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) showed incredible pace throughout the weekend, with the Italian star topping sessions throughout the weekend. Di Giannantonio fought to fourth position in the wet Sprint. This forward momentum would carry into Sunday, with the #49 jumping into second position in the opening laps. However, an error at Turn 1 ended podium hopes on Lap 18, with Di Giannantonio explaining the mistake in detail.

Di Giannantonio: "Well, I didn't make a big mistake. I just braked 5 metres later, compared to the lap before, and I had 2 degrees more angle, and I lost it. I think the rhythm we were doing was quite a great rhythm, because at the end, I was not losing too much time to Marc, I was losing, but not that much, and I was there containing Bez from the back. So for everybody, the rhythm was quite high. I just tried to push where I was feeling strong all weekend, and I made a mistake. But it's part of the game. I prefer to crash in a position like this rather than when I'm 15th."

"More than I expected"

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) had a difficult end to his weekend in Germany, with the Italian star crashing out at Turn 1. The Italian made a strong launch from the front row, aiming to carry his momentum following a P2 finish in Saturday’s Sprint. However, things did not play out how Bezzecchi hoped, with the #72 explaining his weekend and the moment where his podium hopes were taken away on Lap 21.

Bezzecchi: "I braked more or less the same as the lap before, but I was not as strong. So I was less sideways, but as soon as the rear was in line with the front, I had some small understeer and as soon as I went down that small downhill in the middle of the corner. I lost the front slowly, and unfortunately, I couldn't save it. I tried.

"Today, my performance was much more than I expected, to be honest. Ok, the end was not good, but I was catching Fabio, ok, Marc was gone already, but I was catching Fabio and also managing the gap with Alex."

"I was stuck there"

Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) finished on the podium once more, battling from the second row of the grid. The Italian had another strong result, continuing to make progress in 2025 as he searches for the next step. However, Bagnaia feels like more is still to come and is not ‘satisfied’ with P3 on Sunday.

Bagnaia: "When you are starting from the fourth row in the grid, you just need to be happy if you finish on the podium. I’m happy but not fully satisfied because I know that I’m finishing more or less always in third place. I think the potential is there to do something more. I was trying to do the maximum again. Every time I was getting closer to 0.5s, 0.6s, I was stuck there. It’s true that it’s more or less always like this, but I think we've been doing a very good job over the last three GPs. We took a step forward. We just need to be focused on it."

"Trying to find some motivation"

Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) returned to action at the German GP, with the Italian star immediately on the pace, ending the weekend with a P6 finish on his first weekend back following a crash at Suzuka. Marini shared his overall thoughts after Round 11 of the season, and how the wet conditions throughout the weekend played into his advantage. However, the #10 is continuing to analyse and looks to find the next step with Honda.

Marini: "I am super proud about this weekend, we did a really good job throughout the weekend, as on Friday I was trying not to complete too many laps, trying not to get too tired. Then yesterday, it was fully wet, which helped me as it is less physical to ride in the wet.

"I was feeling better with used tyres, and I was trying to find some motivation to say ‘okay, now we can achieve a good result’. I saw some crashes and I saw that I was faster than some riders in front of me, faster than Mir, Binder and Miller, but the problem is that overtaking with our bike is difficult. We are not strong enough in acceleration, especially at the final corner and in the braking zone at Turn 1, I was also not strong."
