Talking Points: "I think I made the right decision"

Following an exhilarating return to Brno, catch up on the hottest talking points from Round 12 of the season

MotoGP made a spectacular return to Brno, delivering unforgettable moments and a historic win for Ducati and Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team). The #93 became the first Ducati rider to clinch five consecutive Grand Prix victories, adding to his impressive win tally in 2025. Marc Marquez edged out Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) after a stunning duel for the lead in Czechia. Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) celebrated his first Grand Prix podium of the season, taking a further step with the Austrian factory. With the World Champion returning to action and some notable incidents, here are the hottest talking points from Round 12!

"I would like to have a race next week"

Marc Marquez served up another masterclass on Sunday, building on his remarkable Sprint win on Saturday. The #93 pounced on Lap 8 of the Czech GP, storming into the lead and controlling the race to cross the line with a 1.753s advantage over Bezzecchi. It was maximum points scored this weekend, with the #93 beginning to take time to reflect on the first part of the season and what is still to come in 2025.

Marc Marquez: "I would like to have a race next week because we are in a super good moment, but it’s important to take a rest and understand what we did in the first part of the season. It’s true that it has been super good. One of the best first parts of a season I’ve had in my career, since 2019, we can say. Now we’re in a good moment, the team are working in a very good way, and the bike is working. Along with these things, I’m trying to manage my instinct and not attack every lap. I am just trying to control myself."

"I think I made the right decision"

Round 12 of the season will be remembered for many reasons, most notably with the return of Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing). It was an emotional weekend for the #1, who held a press conference on Thursday, confirming that he will remain with the Italian factory in 2026. Martin finished the Czech GP in seventh position – an impressive result on his comeback. The Spanish star discussed the weekend in full, and his decision to remain with Aprilia in 2026.

Martin: "I'm grateful for being here today and to finish the race after a really tense weekend because, you know, it was really unpredictable. There were many feelings before I raced. I was crying a lot with my family in the motorhome. Just when I put on the leather suit, because you all know what I've been through, it was tough. But yeah, I think it was good to relieve those emotions and then get focused for the race.

"I mean, yeah, I think I made the right decision. We will never know, but I mean, I am happy where I am. I know the bike is really complete. I am competitive, inside me and also outside, but the important thing is that inside myself I feel that I still have that gas and I can arrive at the top."

"I knew Marc was really strong"

Marco Bezzecchi continued to shine at Brno, working hard throughout the weekend and fighting for the lead throughout the opening stages of the Grand Prix. The Italian would find a further step following a P4 finish in the Sprint, ending the weekend with crucial Championship points. Bezzecchi remained calm during the Grand Prix, sticking to his strategy and saving his tyre for the final laps to secure second position.

Bezzecchi: "I’m very happy about the weekend overall. Today’s race was fantastic. I was able to make a good start. That was my plan. I started thinking about my strategy a lot in my head to try to put myself in the first position as soon as possible to try to give some fresh air to the front tyre, because this track is always demanding on the front. I risked a lot in the first couple of laps. Then I found myself where I wanted to stay. I knew Marc was really strong. We saw his pace throughout the weekend. When he passed me, I didn’t panic too much. I tried to follow, but I saw that he was slightly faster.

"In the last three or four laps, I had the speed and the tyre left to escape from them and to finish in second place."

"Let’s wait until the Red Bull Ring"

Pedro Acosta returned to the podium this weekend, first finishing as runner-up in the Sprint before charging to a third-place finish on Sunday. It was a positive weekend for KTM and Acosta, with the #37 earning his first Sunday podium of the season. Acosta reflected on the first half of the season and remains focused on improving ahead of KTM’s home race in Austria.

Acosta: "It was not easy, now that we are leaving the first part of the season. Now there is a lot of fire between us. When you put two strong characters like this at the same table to talk, they are sometimes quiet. Sometimes we have to cool everything down and start again. It’s true that over the last couple of weekends, we have been getting better. We are becoming more consistent and are consistently inside the top five. We have to keep going like this. Now we can profit from this time off. Let’s wait until good things arrive on the bike, let’s wait until the Red Bull Ring."

"I don’t believe in bad luck"

One of the biggest moments of the Grand Prix arrived on Lap 2, with Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing) and Joan Mir’s (Honda HRC Castrol) weekend coming to an early end. The #73 lost the front and made contact with Mir, resulting in both riders crashing out. Alex Marquez received a Long Lap penalty for the collision, to be served at the next Grand Prix. Both riders gave their thoughts on the incident, with Mir offering a different perspective.

Mir: "I don’t believe in bad luck. I think we are in a situation where we are fighting against other bikes that go another 5-10km/h faster on the straight compared to us, and in the end, you arrive in the braking zone inferior to the others. So, if the guy behind you is a little more optimistic than he should be, then this can happen."

Alex Marquez: "I just made a mistake. I mean, that corner was maybe not the place. I was not trying to overtake him; I was just trying to see if that was a possible overtaking spot. Then at that point, I was more on the inside. I lost the front, and unluckily, I touched Mir, and he also crashed.

"It is experience for the future. It’s something that when we start there in the back, we need to be a little bit more patient."

"The problems were really similar"

Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) secured valuable points over the Czech GP weekend, finishing P5 in the Sprint before clinching P6 on Sunday. The Frenchman is still working to find further grip and pace, especially in the opening five laps. However, Quartararo remains optimistic as he awaits the arrival of Yamaha’s V4 engine.

Quartararo: "The first five laps are really complicated for us. We are missing a lot of grip. We started with a completely different setting this morning that I really like, and I think it was nice to experience it during the race. But the problems were really similar.

"I'm not sure because I'm not an engineer and have not tried a V4, but it's like Ducati has one, KTM another one and Aprilia another one. And what I see today is the same; we are missing the same with every other bike. So, I think it’s related to the engine."
