Wild racing, wild parties and wild boar: CNN dives into Mugello

They say al Mugello non si dorme and the record crowds were on their loudest behaviour as CNN dropped in to the Italian GP

“Everything is special about Mugello,” is what Prima Pramac Yamaha team boss Paolo Campinoti tells CNN, and the rest of their recent travel feature on Mugello only proves the Italian right. After explaining he arrives at the race by Vespa from his house in Florence, Campinoti continues: “The fans bring an incredible atmosphere, full of passion, color and energy. It’s not just a race — it’s a celebration.”

The record crowd there for the 2025 Italian GP – more than 166,000 people over the event – made sure that rung true. Mugello is also a destination even before MotoGP touches down, located in one of the most beautiful regions in Europe: Tuscany. Add in the most exciting sport on Earth (that’s us!), and it doesn’t get much better. CNN agrees:

You could be forgiven for thinking you’d wandered into an avant-garde music festival or the set of a “Mad Max” sequel. But this is Mugello, home to the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix — and one of the biggest parties in motorsport.

Formula 1 has Monaco, with its ostentation and air of exclusivity. Mugello, in perhaps Italy’s most idyllic region, offers something no less iconic, but altogether more visceral – and arguably, a lot more fun.
