Kaito Toba, from Japan, won the Asia Talent Cup in 2014 in its inaugural year before moving onto the Red Bull Rookies Cup and FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship in 2015. After a podium in the Rookies Cup that year, 2016 saw Toba race in both series once again, with wins and podiums in both. For 2017, the Japanese rider joined Honda Team Asia in the Moto3™ World Championship, and had an up and down year but some solid showings. He stayed with them for 2019, a year that started in an excellent way with victory in Qatar. In 2020 he sought to bring back the best version of himself on his move to Red Bull KTM Ajo. In a season with many ups and downs, Toba’s P3 at the Teruel GP was the highlight. A move to CIP Green Power came in 2021 but despite some early season promise, the Japanese rider only managed to make the podium once, at the German GP. 2022 started with a bang for Toba, as he took P3 in the season opener, but he failed to crack the podium places again as his form tailed off during the latter stages of the campaign. Moving over to SIC58 Squadra Corse, it will be interesting to see what Toba can produce in 2023.
