Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) is on pole for the fourth time in 2016. This is the greatest number of poles in a single season by a British rider in the intermediate-class of grand prix racing since Rod Gould in 1972.
In second place on the grid is championship leader and last year’s winner at Silverstone, Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport).
Taking the final place on the front row is Jonas Folger (Dynavolt Intact GP), who won the wet 125 GP race at Silverstone in 2011 to score his first GP victory.
Heading the second row is Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) who finished fourth at Silverstone last year. That equalled the best result of his rookie season in the Moto2™ class.
In fifth place on the grid is Hafizh Syahrin (Petronas Raceline Malaysia), which is his best ever qualifying result in grand prix racing.
Championship challenger Alex Rins (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) has qualified down in 19th place on the grid, which is his worst qualifying result since moving up to the Moto2™ class. He is recovering from a broken collarbone sustained in training.
