Acosta, Montella and Alonso victorious in Portimao

Yari Montella and David Alonso continued their 100% start to the season, whilst Pedro Acosta got his Estoril revenge on Xavi Artigas

Just six days after the opening FIM CEV Repsol round in Estoril, the paddock moved down the Portuguese coast to set up camp at Portimao, with the Algarve rollercoaster playing host to round two. The day was once again dominated by Yari Montella (Team Ciatti - Speed Up) in the European Moto2™ Championship and David Alonso (Openbank Aspar Team) in the Hawkers European Talent Cup, as the pair continued their 100% start to the season. But in the FIM Junior Moto3™ World Championship, MT-Foundation 77's Pedro Acosta bounced back from missing out on a debut win by 0.003 seconds in Estoril to clinch victory in Portimao.

Acosta had to work for his debut win in the class, though. After a typical group battle at the front, the Spaniard was eventually able to drag himsefl clear on the final lap but once again had the Leopard Impala Junior machine of Xavi Artigas glued to his rear wheel. The pair exited the final corner with Artigas closing at an incredible rate, but unlike six days ago in Estoril, the finish line came to Acosta's rescue and he was able to take the chequered flag by 0.017. David Salvador (Cuna de Campeones) took the final step on the podium.

In the European Moto2™ Championship, it was once again all about the Italian Yari Montella. The 21-year-old continued his incredible start to 2020 by backing up his double victory in Estoril with another double win in Portimao. Team Stylobike's Niki Tuuli would again throw everything at the Speed Up man but he simply couldn't get the better of him and had to settle for his third and fourth second-place finishes of the season. Promoracing's Alessandro Zaccone clinched third place in both race one and race two too.

Talking of continuing their 100% starts to 2020, that's exactly what Colombia's David Alonso did. The talented teen extended his Championship lead out to 23 points after just three races of the 2020 Hawkers European Talent Cup. Cuna de Campeones' Alberto Ferrandez continued his impressive start to the season by clinching a third straight podium finish in only his third race in the Championship, this time a career-best of second. The final spot on the rostrum went the way of Marco Morelli (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Talent Team), a debut top-three finish for the young Spaniard.
