Dorna Sports is delighted to announce a new five-year contract with SPORT TV in Portugal. A long-term broadcast partner of the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship, SPORT TV provides top quality coverage of the sport in a key European market, with the collaboration now confirmed to continue for at least another five seasons.
2020 was a landmark year for Portugal in MotoGP™, contributing to an incredible level of growth in audience and fanbase across the country. The Portuguese GP returned to the calendar for the first time since 2012 with the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve hosting its first motorcycle Grand Prix, and the track has since welcomed the paddock back again in 2021 – with a further date added nearer the end of the season. Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) also made history as the first ever Portuguese premier class winner at the Styrian GP before later in the season becoming the first Portuguese rider to triumph on home turf as he took another stunning victory in Portimão.
With such incredible success driving audiences in Portugal to an all-time high, a new five-year contract with SPORT TV ensures the future of the sport is in the best hands possible to continue providing Portuguese fans with live, exclusive and top quality coverage of MotoGP™, Moto2™, Moto3™ and MotoE™.
Nuno Ferreira Pires, Sport TV CEO: "After more than a decade with MotoGP, we keep verifying a fast-growing interest for the sport and we are very happy to continue contributing for that, during the next five years. MotoGP was a very important renewal for Sport TV with a Portuguese rider bringing excitement and passion to the fans and the Portimão event contributing for an extraordinary engagement. MotoGP is the top content in our motorsports offering that we want to become the most spectacular ever in Portugal."
Manel Arroyo, Dorna Sports Chief Commercial Officer: "We’re very proud to continue our relationship with SPORT TV for another five years. Since 2009, they have been a vital partner in establishing an incredibly passionate audience for the sport in Portugal; an audience we are sure we can continue growing together. With the success of Miguel Oliveira flying the flag in the premier class, and the Portuguese GP back on the calendar with another visit planned for later this season, MotoGP is in a fantastic position to continuing driving this success forward and we’re delighted to continue this journey with long-term partner SPORT TV, guaranteeing top quality coverage for fans across the territory."
