Marquez: “I’m still a rookie in this class”

Marquez: “I’m still a rookie in this class”

A season best finish of fourth for Alex Marquez at the bwin Grand Prix České republiky as he continues to adapt to the Moto2™ class.

Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS Racing) finished within five second of the Moto2™ race winner for the first time this year. A strong start to the weekend saw the younger Marquez feature towards the top of the time sheets for much of the weekend, continuing to build on the work he and his team had done in Indianapolis. The Brno circuit is one of Marquez’s favourites on the calendar, giving the extra boost needed to step into the top five for the first time this season.

During the early stage of the race it appeared as though Marquez may finish on the podium, but he unfortunately faded towards the end of the race. His fourth place finish promotes him to tenth in the Moto2™ World Championship, continuing a steady rookie season. Marquez is hoping this is the first of many top five results and is the beginning of a strong final part of the season.

Alex Marquez: “At Indy we were making steps all weekend and we knew that coming to Brno, one of my favourite tracks, that we had a good opportunity. In the first laps I lost a little bit of time passing other riders and without that maybe we could have battled with Tito. In the end I'm really happy with fourth position here, after some difficult races this season. I want to thank all the team for their work this weekend and I’m confident that this is the way we will continue for the next races. I’m still a rookie in this class, but we made a step here and now we’re ready to take the next.”
