From the start of the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya Scott Redding (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) was looking competitive. Only once during practice was he outside the top ten before qualifying in 11th place. After issues in Mugello, Le Mans and Jerez a top ten finish would have come as a welcome relief but it was not to be. During the race all of the Ducati riders struggled to find rear grip, Redding no different. The Brit was dropped back down to 15th at the end of the first lap, getting up to as high as 12th on lap 19 before his troubles hit. Within just four laps he went from 12th to 19th, his attempts to alter his riding style proving fruitless.
Testing on Monday offered a little hope to Redding as he ended the day ninth with a 1’45.328. Round eight of the MotoGP™ World Championship will take place on the 26th of June in Assen, the oldest circuit on the calendar. A problem free weekend is what Redding graves, eager to return to scoring points once again. Redding clearly has the pace to battle with the front runners in the premier class, his problem free races in Qatar and Austin saw him take tenth and six, he just needs a little good fortune.
Scott Redding: “It is really difficult to explain what happened with such a so high rubber consumption. We did well throughout the weekend but in the race, after a few laps, it was difficult to ride. Probably it is also due to the temperature as today it was very hot. I expected a lot more, to be honest. We have to work a lot because all Ducati bikes struggled while I see that other manufacturers have done well. I tried during the race to change my riding style to adapt it to the rubber. I did everything but there was nothing he really could to change things.”
