Dovizioso: “You never know until first practice”

Fresh off a visit to World Ducati Week, Andrea Dovizioso is taking a cautious approach to predicting the German GP.

In years past the Sachsenring circuit has not suited Ducati bikes, the Bolonga beasts unable to unleash their full power at the tight German circuit. Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) knows this as well as anyone, the Italian having taken a best result of seventh at the track while riding for Ducati. But 2016 is full of changes and the new Michelin tyres could be a blessing for Ducati, offering them a different feel around the Sachsenring. Dovizioso and his team certainly have the experience to quickly get up to speed with the new rubber on the German track.

The German GP has the potential to be a historic weekend for Ducati who could claim their 100th premier class podium. Of those 100 podiums Dovizioso has claimed eight of them, making him the third most successful Ducati rider in terms of podiums achieved. Dovizioso heads to Sachsenring with another win under his belt, having claimed victory in the World Ducati Week flat track race.

Andrea Dovizioso: “I think the layout of the Sachsenring track is not ideal for the characteristics of our Desmosedici GP bike, because it has a lot of long left-hander corners where you have to keep the throttle partially open and our bike is not yet perfect in these conditions. In any case you never know until first practice because it might be better with the different tyre this year. It could be like Assen in the dry, where we were very competitive.”
