Bastianini: “The bike was moving a lot at the rear”

No stopping Enea Bastianini in Germany, the Italian leading the way as the weekend begins but work to do given the conditions.

Weather forced Enea Bastianini (Gresini Racing Moto3) to take it slow on Friday in Germany. The Italian spent his first sessions assessing the state of the circuit before solving issues in the front and rear. He was able to improve his time by over a second to set a 1’27.496, leading Free Practice 2 and Friday overall. But with conditions far from ideal, there wasn’t too much to be learned from the first day’s activities. Bastianini and the rest of the Moto3™ World Championship and hoping for improved conditions on Saturday in order to push harder. Used tyres will also be a focus for ‘The Beast’ should conditions improve.

Enea Bastianini: “Basically, in the morning session I took the measures to the track, because the asphalt was very cold and it was difficult to ride with used tyres, because the bike was moving a lot at the rear. Then in the afternoon the conditions improved slightly, we worked well solving some front-end issues and in the final stages, with new tyres, I managed to make a good step forward: I was able to push hard and I felt comfortable. So I’m happy with this first day, although tomorrow we will continue to work for the race on used tyres; however, given the conditions encountered today, almost all riders are in the same situation. Now we will check the data in preparation for tomorrow, hoping to find a bit higher temperatures.”
