- Johann Zarco starts from pole for the third time in 2016. From the last nine occasions Zarco has started from pole, he has taken eight victories and a second place finish. Zarco won the Moto™2 race at Brno from pole position.
- Sam Lowes starts from second place on the grid. This is his first front row start since he was on pole at Mugello.
- Alex Marquez is in third place on the grid to score his first front row start since he qualified in third place on the grid for the final Moto3™ race of 2014 at Valencia. That was the same day he won the world title. Marquez was fourth last year at Brno – his equal best result in the Moto2 class.
- Heading the second row of the grid is Takaaki Nakagami, who finished second to Mika Kallio in the Moto2™ race at Brno in 2013.
- In fifth place on the grid is Tom Luthi, who won the 125 race at Brno back in 2005 on his way to taking the world title.
