Lorenzo: "It's like the opposite to Misano"

Reigning world champion takes a last minute front row in MotorLand QP - but tyre doubts for race day remain

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) had a difficult first day in Aragon, but the 3-time MotoGP™ world champion bounced back in qualifying to prove fastest Yamaha and put himself on the front row on his final lap of the session. Lorenzo, who won the race at MotorLand in 2014 and 2015, was six tenths back from rival Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) on pole, but close to P2 Maverick Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) by the end of Saturday's action. Doubts about tyre life on Sunday leave the Yamaha rider in need of some more setup work in Warm Up however, as Lorenzo fears the tyre used for qualifying could prove tricky over race distance.

Jorge Lorenzo (P3): "Here it seems like the opposite to Misano - the Honda is working really well and Marc can achieve an unbelievable level. For us it's difficult because Michelin have brought hard tyres here, in the front and rear, and I can't keep good corner speed - I go wide. But with a new soft rear tyre we are quite competitive and can get on the first row. Maybe tomorrow we can't use this tyre however, because especially on the right side it's getting destroyed very quickly - so let's find a better balance tomorrow and see if we can improve the long run pace."
