Marquez: “Phillip Island is one of my favourites”

New MotoGP™ World Champion arrives in Australia with the crown – and ready to push for wins

In the high drama of Motegi, a new World Champion emerged: Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team). Clear at the front when title rivals Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) crashed out of both the race and the title fight, the 25 point haul for the victory saw Marquez wrap up the crown with 3 races remaining – his third MotoGP™ World Championship in four years of premier class competition.

Last year, Marquez won the ‘race of the century’ in the Island Battle at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit – and without the pressure of the title will now be willing to push again. Restrained all year and compensated by becoming the only rider to have scored points in all races, Marquez is still looking for points to add to the team and manufacturer championships – but wants them from victories before the end of the year.

Marc Marquez: "It’s fantastic to arrive at Phillip Island with no pressure for the Championship, as the track is one of my favourites on the calendar, along with Austin and Aragon. It’s so fast and flowing and you really have a lot of fun riding there. One of the main issues to take into account there is the weather. It’s usually very cold during this period of the year and always windy, something that you feel a lot, especially at the end of the final straight. You have to find a setup to make the bike as stable as possible. We’ll try to win some more races before the end of the year as there are also the Constructors and the Team titles to think of."
