Lorenzo: “In the wet I feel very good”

3-time World Champion back at the top in the Malaysian rain with a front row start

Lorenzo: "I can be competitive in the wet"

Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) has a more difficult record in the wet in 2016, as the 3-time MotoGP™ World Champion has found the Michelin wet front tyre more challenging to get up to speed. The Malaysian GP saw Lorenzo back at the top in the wet in the higher ambient temperatures of Sepang, with a provisional P2 just beaten in the last few seconds of the session by teammate Valentino Rossi – but the ‘Spartan’ continued his good wet record at the track and lines up in an important P3 for a race that sees dry pace incredibly close at the front: with four riders split by less than two tenths in FP3.

Jorge Lorenzo (P3): “Unfortunately we couldn’t have a perfect practice in the dry, because even in the last few minutes there were some patches of water. But the grip of the asphalt is amazing, except for a couple of modified corners, but the grip is good and I’ve been competitive in the dry and in the wet. Our strategy was to keep pushing all the way through and our pace is good, just not explosive enough for pole position. But we’re on the front row and that’s important. In the dry there’s four riders close on pace, it’s amazing how close we were this morning. And in the wet I feel very good, but you never know what will happen. I think everyone would prefer a dry race.”

Lorenzo: "I expected better lap times"
