Maverick Viñales topped Warm Up at Sepang, from Andrea Iannone (Ducati Team) and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team). Poleman Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) was fourth, with Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) completing the top five. Track conditions were dry, but with some moisture still affecting laptimes – sure to change again for the race.
Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) and Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich) headed Monster Yamaha Tech 3 duo Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith, with the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini riders Stefan Bradl and Alvaro Bautista completing the top eleven.
9-time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was P16.
