Canet strategy “perfect for the final corner”

Maiden win for the EG 0,0 rider after spectacular last lap lunge

Jerez is so often characterized by the final corner, and Aron Canet (Estrella Galicia 0,0) perfectly proved why in the Moto3™ race – going from third to first and holding it over the line to take his first ever win. After the early chaos had died down, the Spaniard had a plan and stuck to it to pull the move, making amends for his crash out the lead at the Circuit of the Americas.

The Jerez circuit was also the scene of a big crash for Canet during the 2015 FIM CEV Repsol Moto3™ Junior World Championship, an incident that ruled him out of the races on Sunday that weekend and severely set back his title charge. Now, the EG 0,0 rider says the circuit is once again one for good memories – and dedicated the race to his mother, as it was Mother’s Day in Spain on race day.

Aron Canet, P1: “I think the victory was the best present for my mum on Mother’s Day! It was a really difficult race, at the start I tried to stay in the front group and push to break away, but the fight was really intense and that made it hard. Then afterwards some contact with Darryn Binder made me lose some positions. Then, when the race had calmed down, it wasn’t too tough to overtake and I decided to attack at the end of the race from third or fourth – which was perfect for the final corner. This circuit was always difficult for me, but after that race I think I can say I like it! Also, on a special day like today we missed our Team Manager Jordi Arquer – who we hope will be back soon.”
