Alex Marquez: “The last lap was incredible!”

EG 0,0 Marc VDS rider dominates for his second Moto2™ win in the team’s 250th start

Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) has gained some serious traction in 2017, taking a home win in Jerez before fighting for the same in Mugello, completing the podium. Arriving into his home Catalan GP, the ‘Pistolas’ had form at the track and the form bore fruit: looking like the man to beat from the start of the weekend, Marquez put it on pole and then shot away into the distance in a near-perfect Moto2™ masterclass. Clear by four seconds, the 2014 Moto3™ World Champion also made a big gain in the Championship - now just 20 points behind teammate Franco Morbidelli at the top.

The victory was also in the team's 250th intermediate class race start - something extra to celebrate before the paddock heads north towards the TT Circuit Assen.

Alex Marquez, P1: “A victory feels great anywhere but here at this race it feels amazing, just like my first win at Jerez just a few races ago. The last lap was incredible, I could hear the cheering of all the fans so thanks very much for that support. This is a really important victory for me in the championship and for the team on this special day for them. Now I need to keep this momentum for the next race in Assen, but first we will enjoy the win with a party.”
