British Talent Cup application period complete

First step on the path to the British Talent Cup now complete

The application period to be part of the first ever British Talent Cup has now closed, with more than 200 young riders from the British Isles signing up to try their hand at gaining one of an exclusive number of places on the Road to MotoGP™.

The application period to be part of the first British Talent Cup began on May 5th and ran until June 18th, with prospective future World Champions invited to apply online at www.britishtalentcup.com for a chance to get an invite to the Selection Event. Now the application period is over, that Selection Event and the first grid for the British Talent Cup is a step closer for a select few.

The applications received will now be analysed by the selection committee headed by Talent Promotion Director Alberto Puig and British Talent Scout Jeremy McWilliams, with the riders invited to the Selection Event set to be announced very soon.

That shortlist of riders then get the chance to show their skills at Silverstone ahead of the British GP, with their abilities on track and their attitude off track put to the test. Those selected to form part of the first ever British Talent Cup grid will then undergo an intensive winter program of preparation to get ready to face the 2018 season.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO: “The foundations for the newest path on the Road to MotoGP™ have now been laid and we can already see incredible potential in the British Talent Cup from the interest registered so far. Now the time has come to choose the applicants who will be the first ever participants in this new project, and we look forward to beginning our journey together to help the young riders of tomorrow grow and reach their potential.”

The Selection Event before the British GP will see the chosen riders heading for Silverstone to check in on Tuesday, ahead of track action on Wednesday. Those pre-selected will be informed during the MotoGP™ summer break after the German GP.
