Marquez: "The last lap was fun!"

Reigning Champion strikes for the podium on the last lap in the Netherlands - and cuts the gap back to the top

After a cat and mouse four rider fight at the front for much of the Dutch GP, reigning Champion Marc Marquez was battling for the podium in the latter stages as rain threatened, with Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) for company on the final lap.

The Brit was ahead as the final few corners loomed but Marquez pulled out a signature stunner to hit back, holding onto it over the line by only 0.042 to take a valuable podium finish after key title rival Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) crashed out.

The leaves the reigning Champion in P4 in the title standings, eleven points down on the lead now taken over by 'DesmoDovi'.

Marc Marquez, P3: "In the dry on Friday I'd already seen that the Yamaha riders were a step ahead of us, and we were struggling a lot with stability. You could see in the race I was shaking, but we were able to be there and on the podium, which was the target. When there was more rain it was so difficult. I had a big moment early in the race and then when the rain came, so I said 'ok' and started to cool down a bit. I saw Danilo and Valentino were pushing a lot but I was able to be there. The last lap was fun with Cal and Dovizioso and we'll take these 16 points. After the first part of the season to be only 11 points behind is really good. We need something more but we'll get there. Sachsenring is a circuit I like, and it works well for my riding style and for Honda. For this season there's new asphalt so we'll see when we get there but it's a circuit where I feel strong - time to attack."
