Viñales: "There is room to improve..."

Second on Day 1, but the title challenger says there's more to come

Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was close to the top on Day 1 of the Gran Premio Tribul Mastercard di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, as the Spaniard ended Friday only 0.005 seconds off fastest man Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing). Focusing on tyres in the afternoon to get in some serious mileage, the rider from Roses is happy after a good day's work - and says there's still room for improvement on outright laptime...

Maverick Viñales, P2: "Well, I feel good because I did many laps on the tyres, which was the work I wanted to do especially in FP2, getting the maximum out of them in a race distance. Honestly, I am quite surprised because I am quite happy about how the bike is working – still we have to improve because the laptimes are not as fast as we can do, so obviously there is room to improve.

"I am using the 2018 chassis because when we tested in Misano it felt good and I felt more comfortable on the bike, which for me as a rider is really important to feel comfortable. So we will use it until the end of the season because I think we can improve a little bit and give it the maximum."
