Fenati: “In my home race it’s a special victory”

Italian destroyed the field to win in the wet by 28 seconds

Romano Fenati (Marinelli Rivacold Snipers) made his way to the front early in a rain-soaked San Marino GP, and the Italian then never looked back – the gap getting bigger and bigger until Fenati crossed the line over 28 seconds clear of second placed finisher Joan Mir (Leopard Racing).

The performance was reminiscent of Fenati’s first victory in the World Championship at Jerez in 2012, when he was 31 seconds clear – and all the more impressive in Misano given the stakes as he attempts to chase down Mir in the title fight. It also marked his ninth victory in Moto3™, bringing him equal with the late Luis Salom on the most victories in the class.

Romano Fenati, P1: “The 25 points are really good, for sure in my home race it’s a special victory for me and for my team. The bike was fantastic and gave me the feeling immediately at the start, it was fantastic. It was difficult to manage the gap because the water on the track wasn’t equal, more at the start, less in the middle and then it started to rain again and the water came up so it was really difficult. But I’m happy. In the next race we’ll try and get another good result, this is great for the Championship but we have to stay focused for Aragon. When I was first and I saw the pitboard, and it said 16 laps to go…pffff. It was a long race!”
